Less than 100 hectares are still cultivated. Its origin lies in Ciaculli, a small village outside Palermo, located in the Conca d'Oro, the golden basin. It's called the golden basin because virtually the entire area was cultivated with citrus fruits, and the landscape glowed golden from a distance. The Mandarino tardivo has a high sugar content and an intense aroma due to its long growing season. Its peel is very thin, and the flesh contains only a few seeds.
