Alain Milliat – Premium Fruit Juices and Nectars from France

Few manufacturers have shaped the term "premium fruit juice" as much as Alain Milliat. From Orliénas, a small commune in the Rhône department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region near Lyon, comes a range that is as at home in French Michelin-starred restaurants as it is on well-stocked breakfast tables. At ginussland.com, you will find the entire Alain Milliat range under one roof: single-variety fruit juices, nectars, and extra preserves.

From Cherry Farmer to Premium Juice

Alain Milliat was originally a fruit farmer and continued the family business in Orliénas. His father dedicated himself to cultivating cherries, and Alain initially specialized in the flawless cherry variety Zéro Défaut before also growing other fruits. With the opening of a restaurant and his own shop, he created a culinary destination that attracted fruit lovers from afar. In the late 1990s, he began producing his own fruit juices and nectars — an area then dominated by industrial products and where there were few premium providers.

Terroir in a Glass – The Manufacturer's Standard

Alain Milliat is convinced that terroir can be tasted in fruit juice just as it can in wine. He experiments with fruits, stone fruits, and berries from various regions of France, pays attention to the optimal harvest time – only fully ripe fruits carry the full, varietal aroma – and processes the harvest immediately. This focus on variety and ripeness is why Alain Milliat's juices have gained recognition among sommeliers in France.

Alain Milliat Product Lines

Single-variety Fruit Juices. The juice line includes true premium juices, often from a single variety: Cox Orange apple, Rosé grape juice, tomato juice, yellow tomato juice, grapefruit juice, clementine juice, mandarin juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, and single-variety berry concentrates such as cranberry and pomegranate in 200-ml bottles.

Fruit Nectars. For fruits with concentrated pulp – raspberry, strawberry, mango, Williams pear, passion fruit, white peach, vineyard peach, apricot – a nectar is created, which makes the pulp drinkable through slight dilution. The depth of aroma is preserved – a Williams pear nectar from Milliat tastes like Williams pear, not an abstract "pear flavor."

Extra Preserves. "Extra" indicates an increased fruit content: strawberry, cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry, and single-variety specialties such as Apricot Bergeron, Fig Violette, and Raspberry Mecker. In the jar, a breakfast variety that tastes of fruit, not sugar.

Marmalade. Classic Orange Blonde Marmalade – the delicate bitterness of bitter orange, paired with the sweetness of sugar, perfect for freshly toasted brioche.

Frequently Asked Questions About Alain Milliat

What distinguishes an Alain Milliat juice from an industrial juice?
Three things: first, the ripeness of the fruit – Milliat harvests only when fully ripe, while industrial juices use concentrate from early harvests. Second, the choice of variety – Cox Orange apple tastes different from an industrial "apple juice" made from ten varieties. Third, the gentle processing. In the glass, you experience what the fruit itself brings.

How does juice differ from nectar at Alain Milliat?
Juice is the pure pressed residue of the fruit without added water or sugar. Nectar is made from pulp – for fruits like raspberry, peach, or apricot, whose concentrated pulp would be too thick or too sour for pure juice – diluted with a little water and sugar to make it drinkable. Both methods preserve the full fruit character.

What does "Konfitüre Extra" (Extra Preserves) mean?
"Konfitüre Extra" is a protected trade description that requires an increased minimum fruit content – usually from 45g of fruit per 100g of finished product. At Alain Milliat, this proportion is often significantly exceeded, which is noticeable in the intense fruit note in the jar.

Are the preserves organic?
Organic certification is not the same for every product – at Alain Milliat, emphasis is placed on high-quality fruit and gentle processing; organic certification is indicated on the product where applicable. When in doubt, refer to the label information on the respective jar.
