Copenhagen Sparkling Tea Company

Copenhagen Sparkling Tea Company — The Sparkling Tea Pioneers

The Copenhagen Sparkling Tea Company has established its own beverage category in Denmark: Sparkling Tea as a premium alternative to wine and sparkling wine. The cuvées are made from single-origin teas, infused using cold and hot water methods, then blended and carbonated. The brand was co-founded by Danish sommelier Jacob Kocemba, who has translated his wine-pairing expertise into the world of tea. At ginussland.com, you'll find both the non-alcoholic line and the alcoholic varieties from the manufactory.

Sparkling Tea as a Distinct Beverage Category

The idea behind Copenhagen Sparkling Tea is clearly distinct from classic iced tea or lemonade: high-quality teas from Japan, India, Sri Lanka, and China are infused as single-origin varieties, often using a cold-water process that extracts delicate aromas more gently than hot infusion. The tea infusions are then blended into cuvées — comparable to the cuvée creation in sparkling wine — and carbonated. The result has a complexity that can rival that of a champagne or pet-nat wine, without grapes or fermentation being involved.

The Non-Alcoholic Cuvées

Lysegrøn (light green). A cuvée of Sencha (Japanese green tea) and other green tea varieties — fresh, grassy, with a clear profile. A sophisticated non-alcoholic aperitif option.

Lyserød (light red). The rosé variety — fruity, with hibiscus and black tea components. Closer in taste to a rosé sparkling wine than to a classic tea.

Blå (blue). A balanced cuvée with floral notes, often flavored with Blue Mauritius or butterfly pea tea. The most unusual profile in the range — perfect for occasions where Sparkling Tea serves as a conversation starter.

The Alcoholic Cuvées

Grøn (green, 5% Vol.). The alcoholic sibling of Lysegrøn — slightly fuller-bodied due to an additional component and with a subtle alcoholic mellowness.

Rød (red, 5% Vol.). The alcoholic sibling of Lyserød — Sparkling Tea with the character of a light rosé sparkling wine.

Vinter (Winter, 5% Vol.). A wintery cuvée with chai components — cinnamon, cardamom, clove. A Sparkling Tea answer to classic mulled wine.

Tasting Set

• As an aperitif before dinner, well-chilled in a champagne flute
• As a non-alcoholic toast at receptions — the presentation of the bottles is on par with champagne
• As a pairing experience — those who love wine pairings will find the most impressive non-alcoholic counterpart in Copenhagen Sparkling Tea

Frequently Asked Questions About Copenhagen Sparkling Tea

What is Sparkling Tea?
Sparkling Tea is a high-quality tea infusion that is carbonated and bottled in sparkling wine bottles. Unlike classic iced tea, Sparkling Tea typically contains little to no sugar, is based on single-origin teas, and is positioned as a premium alternative to sparkling wines. Copenhagen Sparkling Tea has helped shape this category in Denmark.

How are the variety names pronounced?
In Danish: Lysegrøn ("Loo-suh-gruen") = light green, Lyserød ("Loo-suh-ruhd") = light red, Blå ("Bloh") = blue. For the alcoholic varieties: Grøn ("Gruen") = green, Rød ("Ruhd") = red, Vinter ("Veen-ter") = Winter.

Does Sparkling Tea contain caffeine?
That depends on the tea base. Black tea and green tea-based varieties contain caffeine (theine), albeit in smaller quantities than a hot tea prepared in the same way. Special cuvées with hibiscus or herbal components contain less or no caffeine. The label information on the product provides detailed information.

What glass is suitable for Copenhagen Sparkling Tea?
As with sparkling wine, the glass depends on the variety. A narrow champagne flute keeps the effervescence longer and concentrates the aromas — good for Lysegrøn or Blå. A round champagne glass reveals the full breadth of more complex cuvées like Lyserød or Vinter.
